What is Butterfly Clicking?

Butterfly Clicking is one of the most effective methods to get an extremely high Clicks Per Second (CPS) ratio. It requires coordination: you place two fingers (usually index and middle) on the same left mouse button and alternate hitting it rapidly.

The finger movement resembles butterfly wings. Coupled with the hardware 'Double Clicking' phenomenon (when the mouse registers two inputs for one physical click due to rebound), this technique can achieve 15 to 20+ CPS.

Mice and Debounce Time

To successfully perform a competitive Butterfly Click, good hardware is required:

Mouse Feature Why it matters? Large buttons Since you place two fingers on the left click, you need physical space. Adjustable Debounce Time Lowering the debounce time (e.g. 4ms) allows the mouse to easily 'double-click'. Mechanical Switches Optical switches physically cannot 'double-click'. Make sure you have classic switches (Omron, Kailh).

How to master the Butterfly Click technique?

The Butterfly Click is the most powerful clicking technique for achieving extreme CPS (15-20+ clicks per second). It consists of placing two fingers (index and middle) on the left mouse button and alternating them quickly, like the wings of a butterfly. Here's how to master it step by step:

Step 1: Finger positioning — Place your index and middle fingers side by side on the edge of the left button. Your mouse grip should remain stable using the thumb and ring fingers on the sides. The closer your fingers are to the outer edge of the button, the more effective the rebound will be.

Step 2: Rhythmic alternation — The goal is not to force, but to find a natural rhythm. Start slowly and gradually speed up. Imagine you're playing trills on a piano — it's the exact same movement. Practice our classic CPS test in 5-second mode to measure your progress.

Step 3: Exploit Mechanical Double Click — Some mice with Omron or Kailh GM switches allow a natural "double-clicking" phenomenon. Each mechanical press sometimes registers 2 clicks instead of 1. This is legal on most Minecraft servers because it is hardware behavior, not software. Discover the best mice for Butterfly Click.

Butterfly Click vs Jitter Click vs Drag Click: which technique to choose?

Each fast clicking technique has its strengths and weaknesses. The choice depends on your game and your comfort:

Criterion Butterfly Click Jitter ClickDrag Click Average CPS 15-20+ CPS 10-14 CPS 30+ CPS Aiming precision Good Average Low Muscle fatigue Low High Very weak Special mouse required Recommended No Required Ideal for PvP Minecraft, Bridging FPS, Kohi PvP Godbridging Minecraft

For beginners, we recommend starting with the Jitter Click (easier to learn) and then moving on to the Butterfly Click once you have mastered a steady rhythm above 10 CPS. Also test your reflexes and your aim precision to be a complete player.

What are the health risks of Butterfly Click?

The Butterfly Click is one of the least tiring techniques because it distributes the effort between two fingers. However, here are some precautions to take:

Warm-up — Always do a 2-3 minute warm-up before an intensive session. Stretch your fingers, wrists and forearms. It's like a sport: no warm-up = risk of injury.

Regular breaks — Follow the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at an object 20 yards away. Limit your Butterfly Click training sessions to 15 minutes or less.

Warning signal — If you feel tingling, numbness or pain in your fingers, wrists or forearms, stop immediately. These symptoms may indicate the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome. Check out our article How to click faster for detailed tips on prevention.

Butterfly Click FAQ

Is Butterfly Clicking considered cheating (Bannable)? +
It depends entirely on the rules of the server. Some servers auto-ban anything above 15 CPS. Check the server rules!
What are the best mice for Butterfly Clicking? +
The most acclaimed mice for this technique are from Glorious (Model O, D) and Roccat (Kain 100/120), as they have wide buttons and software to lower debounce time.
